Running History
I have been a runner for as long as I can remember – from age five, running with my dad in my first 5k, to marathons in my 20s. Finally, I found my true passion in trail and ultra running in my 30s. I instantly fell in love with the community, which I believe led to my success in the trail and ultra world. I have not only won women’s races, but have found myself on the overall race podium as well. My niche is in longer races – I love the 50 mile, 100k and 100 mile distances – but I keep my running rounded out by participating in sub-ultra distances and road racing as well.
I attribute much of my success to my never ending curiosity for learning about the human body and what helps it endure – physically and mentally. Keying into and listening to my body, learning to run by feel and listening for overtraining cues are critical to my longevity.
Coaching Philosophy
As an ultra running coach, I strongly believe that running should be fun! Working with my own coach, I have learned how important clear communication is and having an outside opinion can be. I build creative and flexible running plans that are based in science. My continuing education consists of a certificate in coaching from UESCA, Dr. Stacy Sims’ Women are Not Small Men and Menopause 2.0 courses, and a certificate from Core Exercise Solutions. With this knowledge and decades of experience I support newer runners in reaching their goals, and ensure experienced runners will take their skills to the next level. These courses have also come in handy with understanding my current transition through perimenopause.
Personal Life
Outside of running I like to create and learn. My creative mediums of choice are oil on canvas and watercolor, I also love to create gardens. Landscapes often inspire my paintings while I run, so I keep my phone handy to snap inspirational shots. My two herding dogs are my best trail partners and they are rarely very far from my side.
My learning mediums are books and continuing education classes, usually focused on an aspect of human movement.
